Lupin appoints Spiro Gavaris as president of US generics biz

Pharmaceuticals firm Lupin Ltd on Thursday said it has appointed Spiro Gavaris as president of its US generics business. Spiro, who had most recently served as president of Specialty Generics business at Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals and the president of US Injectables at Hikma, will be responsible for the overall strategy, implementation and growth of Lupin's US generics business, the company said in a regulatory filing. US FDA issues import alert on Sun Pharma's Halol facility

Sun Pharma on Thursday said the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) has imposed an import alert on its Halol manufacturing site in Gujarat, that bans future shipments of products from the facility to the US market, until resolution of regulatory compliance issues flagged by the regulatory agency. The USFDA, however, excluded 14 products from this import alert, subject to certain's confidential's conditions.

Madras High Court stays NGT order against Sun Pharma

A division bench of the Madras High Court on Tuesday stayed the operation of the orders of the Southern Regional Bench of the National Green Tribunal levying an interim compensation of Rs 10 crore on Sun Pharma for expanding its drug manufacturing unit in Maduranthagam allegedly without necessary environmental clearance from the authority concerned. The bench of Justices V M Velumani and R Hemalatha granted the injunction while passing interim orders on an appeal from the pharmaceutical company

Dr Reddy's, Sun Pharma recall products in US for manufacturing issues

Drug majors Dr Reddy's Laboratories and Sun Pharma are recalling different products in the US market for manufacturing issues, according to the US Food and Drug Administration. As per the enforcement report by the US health regulator, the US-based arm of Dr Reddy's Laboratories is recalling over 48,000 cartons of a drug used to treat sneezing, runny or stuffy nose. It is recalling 25,176 cartons of 30-count tablets and 22,968 cartons of 20-count tablets.

JB Pharma cuts price of its top-selling heart failure drug Azmarda by 50%

JB Pharma on Monday announced a 50% price cut for its heart failure drug Azmarda, which is a sacubitril-valsartan combination, in anticipation of stiff competition with the drug going off-patent in January 2023. After the price reduction, Azmarda 50 mg will be available at Rs 39.6 per tablet as compared to Rs 78 per tablet. Azmarda is one of the top selling drugs of JB Pharma, with 17% market share.

Biocon Biologics appoints Shreehas Tambe as MD & CEO

Biocon Biologics Ltd (BBL), the subsidiary of Biocon, on Monday appointed Shreehas Tambe as managing director & CEO of the company from December 5, 2022. Tambe takes over from Arun Chandavarkar, who will continue to serve as a non-executive, non- independent director on the Board of Biocon Biologics.
